About Us

The history of Crescent Sports Club

Crescent Sports Club was founded 12 August 1977 by a group of football loving friends. Members were initially high school mates or siblings who gathered to play the Beautiful Game every Sunday after attending church service.. In the first five years, any open space was just fine for playing. Primary school fields were the favourite. In 1982, the club secured permission to play in an open field in Delta Crescent, off Ikokpan Street, Benin City.
Coincidentally the most significant rendezvous at that time had a lush mango tree under which members sat and feasted. The Club actually took its name from Delta Crescent, its first “permanent site”. Playing together further cemented the bond of friendship among members who re-assembled to recreate and rehydrate after playing every Sunday under “The Mango Tree.”
Just as its name was gotten from its environment, the Club quickly attached a special symbolism to the Mango Tree which has now been adopted as its totem and anthem. As the Club grew in stature and membership, it was obliged to have officers to run its affairs.
Who We Are

The True Spirit Of Football

The game of football is a spiritual calling, a calling to brotherhood, to social justice, and to the transcendent principles of honor, integrity, and fair play. Over the decades, the Crescent Sports Club has upheld these values by adhering to the spirit of football. The values of the sports club are embodied in its mission, which began as “to establish and foster camaraderie among its members through the playing and lasting enjoyment of the game of football.”
